I am going to try really, really hard to write here every day. I haven't kept up with this like I wanted to when I started. Something always seems to come up or I say to myself that "I'll write in it tomorrow night." Well.....just in case some of you don't know it...tomorrow night never comes!!! *slaps hand over mouth and looks around* Uh oh...I hope I didn't just give away a huge earth shaking secret! Well, just in case it was and I've just ruined someone's life....I'm very sorry and I hope you'll still return here to continue reading all of these enlightening tidbits I drop from the deep, fathomless depths of my brain. *Big smile*
So, back to where I left off weeks ago. It finally stopped raining a few days after I wrote. The water seeping up also quit about a week later. I think sopping up the water helped to head off any problems. There's no mold growth appearing on the baseboard or the area by it. Thankfully we haven't gotten dumped on like that again!
The restaurant my hubby worked at closed down with no warning just a few days after I wrote my last post. No, now that I think on it, it would have to have been before then. It was a Sunday and he had clocked out already. He said bye to everyone and said, see ya on Wednesday. He was out the back door heading to the car when his boss caught up with him. He tells hubby, we're closing down tomorrow. Of course he got a puzzled look on his face and asked, just for the day? Are you doing some major repairs or cleaning? Boss man said,no, we're shutting down for good. The restaurant is over, done, no more. Obviously, hubby had no idea what to say to that and I'm quite sure his mouth was hanging open. He came home in a semi stupor but with every passing second just got angry. Not that anyone can blame him. It came out of nowhere!! It happened at the worst possible time too. There weren't and aren't any jobs out there. Never, in all my 39 years, have I never seen no restaurant jobs and certainly have never not seen a restaurant section in the wanted ads. That's exactly what happened though. No restaurant section at all. *shakes head in bafflement and wonder* That alone should illustrate just how bad the job market is!
Then, to top it all off and add insult to injury, hubby received a letter about a week or so later from the unemployment office, telling him he's been denied for unemployment!!!!! OMFG!!! You have got to be kidding me! The only job listed on the form was the part time job he had delivering pizza that he quit working at last year in April!! We had some savings in the bank but not enough to last for long buying food, gas, cigs and paying our bills that come due. He called the 800 number for unemployment for about 5 days before he got through. That is baffling too...how can an 800 number for that kind of agency always be busy?!?!?! They must have more than one line.
Anyway, he tells them he hasn't worked delivery in over a year now and has held a full time job for the past 5 years. He had to fax off our tax returns and W-2's for the past couple of years. Then we start wondering how can they not know this already? All employers report to the state on every worker for just this reason. He called some of the people he had worked with to see if they had any problems getting their unemployment. Turns out they were having the same problem. So about a week goes by and we get an approval letter. We think, finally....we'll get some money before our savings are all used up! :-D Days went by....that turned into a week, then 2, still no money. Hubby then hopped on the always busy 800 number for unemployment. It took 3 days to get through this time, so that was an improvement! *chuckles* The lady then informs him that his case had been flagged and he's being investigated for trying to claim unemployment for the delivery job he quit. *screams in frustration*
It's getting late now and I have to go to the doc tomorrow. I'll be back tomorrow night with the rest of the saga.
