Shanni Tails and My Close Encounter

Tue Apr 1,2008

Another day in the life of The Little Huntress! No squirrels today, but we did have a run in with a very big lizard and a frog. This afternoon I had stepped inside the house for a minute to do something. Don't remember what it was, but I happened to look outside to make sure Shanni was behaving herself and here she is running across the courtyard toward the front door. I caught just a glimpse of a body hanging out of her mouth. Yelled at hubby, she's got one in her mouth, coming inside! He jumps up and nabs her right inside the door, I hear "Drop it!" and then "S*&^!" *laughing* She dropped it alright, the thing ran into the storage room! I thought it was just a medium or small lizard. A bit later and I open the storage room to get the vacuum cleaner out and saw something move. I say to hubs, Ummm I don't think it went as far as we thought! I wait for him to get over there before I moved the vacuum cleaner again. I slowly move it back and WOW there sits the biggest freaking lizard I've ever seen! I swear this thing should have had a saddle on it's back. It ran under the door into the dining room but hubby snuck up on the sucker and captured it without further damaging the pony, I mean lizard. It was successfully released into the wild and is now roaming free once again!

I let her come outside tonight when we stepped out for a cig. We're not out there 1 minute when I look over and then did a double take! There's something hanging out of her mouth! OMG..I'm chasing her all over the courtyard yelling, drop it, drop it!!! She finally does drop it, she had it by a back leg, and then it hopped!! Ok, lizards don't hop and she's already trying to pounce on it again. I grab her, the frog hops, right on my hand. *sigh* What is it with frogs jumping on me??!! I grabbed Shanni and tossed her back inside giving the frog plenty of time to make a clean get away and thanking his lucky little stars I was there to save his worthless life!

On the frog theme I had a up close and personal encounter about 2 weeks ago. We had gone outside but didn't turn the lights on. I'm just kicking back in the chair. I get up and of course my legs aren't working worth a hoot that night. I set my hand on the back of the chair and something moved under the palm of my hand, not only did it move, but it was wet and spraying wetness everywhere! Now this is the part where I say what a brave woman I was and realizing it was just a harmless frog, I laughed heartily as I strolled back in the house. Ummmm, sorry to disappoint everyone but that's not how it happened. There was only one other time in my life I actually screamed like a girl....I NEVER have been able to scream like a girl. My voice is not high pitch, it's in the lower pitch range. Anyway, when I felt something move, it's pitch black out there, I jumped, ran backward screaming like a girl! *embarrassed* Poor hubby thinking maybe something had bitten my hand off was behind me yelling, what? what?! Something moved!!!! I cry. He leaps for the door and turns on the lights and the huge, horrible, wet monster....was a little froggie who I literally scared the pee out of. It was all over my hand and my chair. The scare had of course sent my pain level right through the roof and I just stood there, bent over, hand held well away from my body, crying like a baby. Hubby wanted to laugh so bad, but like the good man he is, he swallowed it thinking it wouldn't be a good idea to dissolve into hysterics while wife is blubbering like a baby.

Now the next day, all bets were off and we both laughed hysterically about the whole episode. Of course he had to go and remind me about the first time I screamed like a girl a few years ago. He totally missed that one though. It was near christmas and we were in super walmart in the toy isle. Serena was telling me the dolls she hoped santa would bring her, etc. I felt something thump against my pant leg. I look down and there's this big bug on me! Cue the scream, the funny dance while I'm slapping at my pant leg trying to get it off of me!!! *shivers* OMG I swear my heart stopped for a couple of minutes. I finally got it off me without touching it and saw this big ole icky bug laying on the floor, trying to crawl away. *shivers again* OMG...of course the girl child, bug lover and picker upper she was, went to try and pick it up! Oh no!! I grabbed her and hustled her little hiney way away from the "cute little buggie" as fast as I could walk! I say, that's no cute, LITTLE anything, it's huge, ugly and UGH! We are not going there.

I really beginning to miss those cute little fuzzy faced squirrels though. *sigh* There's always tomorrow, we shall see.
