Now, for the best story of the entire day, make that probably the best story for the entire year, is about The Squirrel Who Taunts Shanni! You read that right, a squirrel who likes to taunt the cat!
So, I'm sitting outside in the courtyard about 7pm, the sun is beginning to set, casting it's golden rays through the trees, right into my eyes. All of a sudden, there goes Shanni streaking across the courtyard, belly dragging the ground. Right about then I saw something move on the other side of the gate and when I turned my head to look there was nothing there. Just as I was about to go back to my book,a cute little squirrel pops up on top of the gate! Shanni is crouched and getting ready to spring up there and get her some squirrel. I yell NOOOOO, Run squirrel run!!!!! It seemed like he had heard me and took my advice. He ran across the top of the fence, took the corner and disappeared. I started to breath a sigh of relief when, omg...there he is on top of the fence again, running back toward the gate! Well holy cow you little pea brain, I said Run!! He gets to the corner of said fence and stops to wash his cute little face.
So....I say..what are you doing?!?! Run dang it! Then, once again appearing to heed my warning he runs the other way, away from the gate and toward the back of the building. Just when I think he's going to jump off and keep running, he turns that corner, sits on top of the fence at the back corner of that building and.....you're gonna love this one...he looks straight at Shanni who is still by the front gate, and begins to chatter and shake and wave his tail at her! He did this for maybe 30 seconds, then when Shanni runs across the courtyard again toward him, he hops off the fence and runs away. Hubby rushes over to see where he went. He went up a tree and onto the neighbors fence on the other side.
Needless to say I completely lost it and came a hair away from rolling on the ground, quite literally! Tears are streaming down my face and hubby's too we're laughing so hard. Then, we had to go and look at Shanni and we laughed even harder! She was crouched by the fence trying to look through it and under it to see where her oh so smart aleck squirrel had gotten off to. The look on her face was absolutely priceless! There was such a look of bewilderment on her oh so expressive face, wondering, where the heck did he go and how did things go so wrong? *still chuckling over the whole thing*
She was anxious to redeem herself and catch something before she came back in, but it wasn't meant to be though she was hyper alert to everything. The smart lizards stayed away and the dumb ones too. I think tomorrow I shall be The Lizard Saviour as Shanni tries to get her title of Little Huntress back after being made a laughingstock by the Taunting Squirrel.
Weather wise it's getting down to about 47 degrees tonight. I know for you Yankees that sounds like a heat wave, but for this Southern gal who's never been up in Yankee country, well it's just downright cold!!! Brrrr type cold! Sweatshirt and bundle up kind of cold!! Ok, you get the point. *Laughs* I feel I must say that I mean no disrespect with the term Yankee. Why, some of my bestest friends have been Yankees! I was going to say I'd never seen snow but I have. It snowed here in the Great Hurricane and Plywood State of the South back in the late 1970's! That was the first and last time though, so....yeah, it still counts! Well..that is unless by the term "seeing snow" it means that it has to be at least a foot of the stuff, then my answer would be no, I haven't seen snow.
Alrighty then....Guess that'll be it for today. Hope you all have enjoyed another day in The Life of The Humiliated Shanni Girl Who Was Taunted By A Smart Aleck Squirrel. *giggles*
